My First Startup Exit
Hey friends,
Sooooo today is a pretty cool moment for my career: Later, the company I joined as an early employee & the first marketing hire, just got acquired π
Until recently, my entire career was working as an early marketer in tech startups, all which had the same business goal of starting a company from nothing and growing it to an βexitβ β so to have this actually happen is pretty wild!
But I also know now that having an exit or a high valuation doesnβt define my success as a marketer, or my worth as a person.
If youβve been following me for a while, you know that for MANY years my identity and my self-worth was wrapped up in my career and whatever my job title was. I didnβt understand that my value as a person had nothing to do with numbers on a chart, and it took me a lot of work to unpack that.
Iβm very grateful that this moment is coming now, when I can just celebrate without letting an exit define my self-worth.
When we have wins at work, we should be able to celebrate them, but I want you to know that you are not your work, and the LinkedIn βcongrats!β messages that come with a new job title, or a 30 under 30 list, or a huge exit, wonβt change that.
That being said, I am going to take some time today to be really damn proud of myself, and really damn proud of the entire Later team for growing this little hackathon app called Latergramme into an industry-leading brand beloved by MILLIONS of marketers and creators.
You can read more about Later joining forces with Mavrck here - Iβm super stoked to see whatβs to come from these two leading brands in the creator economy. π π
Oh, and Iβll leave you with one of my favourite memories of working at Later: that time my content converted Kim Kardashian and she emailed me:
